Countertop, handheld or phone, 3 attended options

The right question is not which terminal is best. It is which terminal belongs where.

A customer paying contactlessly at a shop counter

An attended payment device is any terminal where a staff member is present when the customer pays. It is the workhorse of Caribbean commerce, the machine on the counter, the handheld at a restaurant table, the reader on the hotel front desk. Around 98% of what we process runs on card rails, and most of it starts at a device like these.

Choosing between them is less about brand than about how your floor actually operates.

Countertop

Wired to power and to your network, sitting at a fixed lane. Right for a shop with 1 or 2 consistent checkouts, a pharmacy, a supermarket lane, anywhere the customer comes to the payment rather than the other way round. Modern units take chip, contactless, magnetic stripe on older cards and mobile wallets on the same device. Most print a receipt and handle tipping and multi-currency prompts, which matters on tourist-heavy islands where a guest wants to see the charge in her own currency.

Portable handheld

This moves the payment to the customer. In a full service restaurant the guest does not hand over a card. The server brings the terminal to the table, the guest taps or inserts, tips on screen and gets a receipt there. In a hotel the same handheld follows the guest from the pool bar to the spa to the restaurant, every charge posting to the same acquiring relationship. The card never leaves the guest's sight and check turn time drops noticeably during a busy service.

Tap to Pay on Android

The newest option and the most useful for teams that move. A compatible Android phone plus our app becomes a full contactless terminal. No separate hardware, no cables, no charger to lose. It suits a delivery driver, a market stall, a home visit technician, an events team running a pop-up. The reader is the phone the staff member already carries. It runs on Android 11 and above.

The part that does not change

All 3 share the same acquiring pathway. Your local bank remains the acquirer and holds your funds. We are the layer connecting the terminal to the card networks, handling the security and putting the reporting in one place. You can change the device floor by floor without touching the settlement structure, which matters when one merchant runs a shop, a restaurant and an events business under the same roof.

Most end up with a mix. One countertop per fixed lane, 2 or 3 handhelds for the floor, and Tap to Pay for the team that leaves the building.
